His ninth goal and Real Madrid's 800th in CL

Cristiano Ronaldo's name will go down in the history books of the Champions League. The Portuguese ace scored his ninth goal in the group stage against FC Copenhagen, something no other player has done before. He also scored the 800th goal for Real Madrid in the European Cup.

And he could have scored another one if the Danish goalkeeper hadn't deflected his penalty shot.

CR7 scored eight goals in the first five games of this group stage, although he really only played in the first four. A tally that equalled the all-time record of the European competition.

Only Filippo Inzaghi, Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Hernán Crespo had achieved this number in the group stage of the Champions League. Nobody had scored more goals than them. Until now that is. Ronaldo shattered their long standing record at Parken Stadion in Copenhagen.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic had been considered a serious rival on Ronaldo's path to becoming the new top scorer of the Champions League. In fact, just like Ronaldo, the Swedish PSG player also scored eight goals in the first five games of the group stage and he too could have smashed the record in this last game. However, Ibra missed the game against Benfica.
