SCIENCE ON MOBILE
Spectacular images captured by telescopes at Chile's many astronomical observatories are available to users of Android devices through a new app developed by Fundacion Imagen de Chile.
The Chile Mobile Observatory offers 100 images of stars, galaxies and nebulas, the Fundacion said in a press release.
The app also includes an astronomical calendar with dates for eclipses, meteor showers, comets and other phenomena.
Boasting perhaps the driest, clearest air in the world, northern Chile's Atacama desert has emerged as an ideal location for observatories.
The Chile Mobile Observatory features images from the massive ALMA complex, an international collaboration between Europe, North America, and Japan; and the European Southern Observatory's La Silla and Paranal facilities, among other observatories.
